C. Reading/Writing: Introducing your family

You have now completed Part A and/or Part B of this exercise. It’s time to check your comprehension and memory of the family vocabulary! Look at the family tree below and pick one character. Then introduce your family. You may also draw your own family tree and introduce your own family in English. Work in groups or in pairs for more interaction.

Example 1: Hi! My name is Sarah. I’m married to John. John is my husband. John and I have two children and five grandchildren. Our daughter, Chloe, is married to James. James is our son-in-law. Chloe and James have three children: one son, Charlie, and two daughters, Louise and Victoria. Our son, David, is married to Nicole. Nicole is our daughter-in-law. Together, they have two children: one son, Paul, and one daughter, Julia. Charlie, Louise, Victoria, Paul and Julia are our grandchildren.

Example 2: Hello! My name is Paul. I have one sister, called Julia. My mother’s name is Jasmine and my father’s name is Felix. My mother has no brothers or sisters. She is an only child. My father has one sister, Alice. Alice is my aunt. She is married to Leo, my uncle. Alice and Leo have one son, William, and two daughters, Charlotte and Emily. William, Charlotte and Emily are my cousins.
